Local context
Glasgow South West covers communities on the south-western side of the city, extending from areas close to the River Clyde toward Glasgow’s outer boundary. The constituency contains a mixture of older residential and industrial districts, large post-war neighbourhoods and more suburban communities. The Clyde and major transport corridors strongly influence the northern part, while parks and open spaces become more prominent farther south and west. Several local shopping and community centres serve the different neighbourhoods, but no single centre dominates the whole seat. Overall, the constituency is strongly urban and reflects Glasgow’s industrial past alongside later housing development and regeneration across the south-west of the city.

Grant to Individual
DB will develop a new body of sculptural and spatial interventions in partnership with Platform, presented across The Bridge in Easterhouse. Drawing on local food cultures and everyday visual language, the project transforms familiar references into playful, durable artworks that invite participation, interaction and reflection. A central large-scale text installation will be accompanied by 3–5 additional sculptural works across public spaces including the library, café and circulation areas. These will be shaped through a 10-week workshop programme with local residents, ensuring participant voices directly inform both process and outcome. The project expands access to contemporary art within a community setting. By combining humour, participation and site-responsive practice, it will create a welcoming environment for audiences less likely to engage with traditional gallery spaces, while establishing a lasting public presence within Platform.
