Local context
Dumfries and Galloway covers the western and central parts of the Dumfries and Galloway council area. It includes Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright, Newton Stewart, Stranraer and numerous smaller towns, villages and rural communities. Much of the constituency is sparsely populated, with long stretches of farmland, forest, upland and coast separating its settlements. Dumfries is the largest urban and service centre, while Stranraer provides an important focus in the west. The Solway Firth, Rhins of Galloway and Galloway Hills give different parts of the seat markedly different landscapes. Overall, it is a large rural constituency with several distinct local centres rather than one continuous urban area.

Ardwell Community Kirk
This group will use the funding to install a fully accessible eco toilet outside its community owned church in this remote rural location.
South West Media Factory CIC
This one year project will enable the continuation of the group’s DGTV project supporting short film making by young people across the region aged 12 to 25 years of age.
SOLWAY CREATIVE SPACE CIC
We will create a live, outdoor group performance for in-person and online audiences where artists will convey and embody connection to the more-than-human by creatively interacting with trees and natural forms. This will take place in private woodlands, include diverse artists and audience and be documented as a short film. Leading up to this there will be thematically related community workshops in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Multicultural Association and Outpost Arts, the latter for 11-18 yr olds experiencing marginalisation. We will also offer a workshop to the eight Scotland-based artists who will then create the woodland performance, to introduce the idea of collective eco-art and Nature as an equal collaborator. These events come under the umbrella of ‘Be-coming Tree’, a global eco-art initiative highlighting the interdependence of all life forms, thus raising climate awareness. The project is underpinned by Solway Creative Space’s ethos of creativity for well-being, active inclusivity and climate-aware practice.
Kirkcudbright Development Trust
This project will deliver 24 monthly film clubs for attendees at the group's existing weekly dementia friendly social groups and it will deliver a programme of BSL lessons.
