Local context

About this constituency

Telford constituency is centred on the Shropshire new town and includes much of its main urban area. Telford was developed around a series of older settlements, industrial areas and planned residential neighbourhoods linked by major roads and extensive green space. The town centre provides the principal commercial and transport focus, while surrounding communities retain distinct local identities. The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, but parks, wooded areas and former industrial land create substantial breaks in development. Major road links connect Telford with Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and the wider Midlands. Overall, the seat reflects the planned and dispersed form of a modern new town.

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

104,803 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot9.0% · 9,404 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little11.2% · 11,703 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act79.9% · 83,696 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗
