It includes towns, suburban communities and villages linked by strong road and rail connections toward the capital and the wider Hertfordshire area. Settlement is generally concentrated in several distinct centres rather than one dominant town, with substantial green-belt land, woodland and open countryside separating many communities. The constituency lies close to Watford and the M25 while extending into more rural parts of the county. Overall, the seat combines established commuter towns, suburban development and a significant countryside hinterland.
