Mid Dorset and North Poole covers suburban communities on the northern side of Poole together with villages and rural areas extending into central Dorset. The Poole section forms part of the wider Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole conurbation, while settlements farther north and west are more dispersed and separated by heathland, woodland and farmland. The constituency includes a number of commuter and village communities rather than one dominant town centre. Major roads connect the area with Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester and the wider south coast. Overall, the seat combines outer suburban neighbourhoods with significant areas of open countryside and environmentally distinctive Dorset heathland.
