Manchester Central covers the city centre and a broad area immediately around it. It includes major commercial, cultural, university and transport districts alongside densely populated inner-city neighbourhoods. The constituency contains some of Manchester’s largest redevelopment areas, railway stations and employment centres, as well as older residential and former industrial communities. Major roads, tram routes and rail lines converge in the centre, while parks, canals and river corridors provide smaller areas of open space. The seat is intensely urban and closely tied to the core of the Greater Manchester economy. Its neighbourhoods vary considerably, but all form part of the continuous central Manchester built-up area.
