Central Devon is a large rural constituency extending across parts of Mid Devon, Teignbridge and West Devon. Its main towns and larger settlements include Crediton, Okehampton, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh, alongside many smaller villages. Much of the seat consists of farmland, wooded valleys and upland countryside, with substantial areas lying around the northern and eastern edges of Dartmoor. Population is widely dispersed and there is no single dominant urban centre. The constituency reaches from the countryside west of Exeter across to the Dartmoor fringe, linking market towns and villages that are separated by considerable stretches of open land and a varied hilly landscape.
