Ping-pong

The stage when a bill moves between the Commons and Lords as they try to agree on amendments.

Also used as: parliamentary ping-pong, legislative ping-pong

Ping-pong is the informal term for the stage when a bill moves back and forth between the House of Commons and the House of Lords because the two Houses have not yet agreed on the same text. Each House considers the other’s amendments and may accept, reject, or propose alternatives. The process continues until agreement is reached or the bill fails.
