Grand Committee

A Lords committee setting where legislation or other business can be debated in detail without formal votes.

Also used as: grand committees

Grand Committee is a forum used in the House of Lords for detailed consideration of bills and some other business. It allows members to debate provisions and propose changes in a committee-style setting. Unlike proceedings in the chamber, Grand Committee does not usually take formal votes, so unresolved issues may later return to the House itself.
