A statutory instrument is a type of delegated or secondary legislation. It allows ministers or other authorised bodies to make detailed legal rules using powers already given by an Act of Parliament. Statutory instruments are commonly used to bring technical rules into force, update existing law, or implement parts of an Act without passing a new Act each time.
