Ayes are the votes cast in favour of a motion, amendment or question in a parliamentary division. In Commons and Lords voting records, the number of Ayes is compared with the number of Noes to show whether the proposal was agreed to or rejected. The term is especially useful when reading division results, bill votes and parliamentary procedure summaries.
