A process requiring Parliament to approve a piece of delegated legislation before it can take effect.
The affirmative procedure is a form of parliamentary scrutiny used for some types of delegated legislation, usually statutory instruments. Under this procedure, the instrument must be actively approved by Parliament before it can come into force, or before it can remain in force. This gives Parliament a clearer formal decision point than procedures where an instrument becomes law automatically unless challenged.
