Neath and Swansea East links the town of Neath with communities on the eastern side of Swansea and the surrounding valleys. Neath is an important town and transport centre, while the Swansea section is more closely integrated with the larger urban area around the city. Beyond these built-up communities, the constituency includes valley settlements and areas of higher ground that reflect the industrial geography of south Wales. Major roads and railways follow the main east–west corridor between Swansea and Neath. The seat therefore combines two connected urban areas with smaller communities and upland edges rather than forming a single compact town-centred constituency.
