Monmouthshire covers a broad part of south-east Wales and includes the towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow together with numerous villages and rural communities. The constituency stretches from the English border and lower Wye valley toward the Usk valley and the foothills of the Bannau Brycheiniog. Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow each provide distinct local centres rather than one town dominating the seat. Much of the area is agricultural or wooded, with river valleys, hills and smaller settlements shaping the landscape. Major road links connect the constituency with Newport, Cardiff, Bristol and Herefordshire. Overall, it has a strongly rural and market-town character.
