Cardiff West covers a broad part of the western side of the capital, from neighbourhoods relatively close to the city centre to outer suburban communities near Cardiff’s western and north-western edge. It includes areas around Ely, Caerau, Fairwater and Llandaff, together with communities farther out toward Radyr and the surrounding green fringe. The constituency is mainly urban and suburban, but density varies considerably between inner residential districts, large post-war neighbourhoods and lower-density areas near the city boundary. The River Taff and River Ely corridors, railway lines and major roads help structure the area, while open land becomes more prominent toward the outer edge of Cardiff.
