Inverness, Skye and West Ross-shire is one of the largest constituencies in the United Kingdom. It combines the city of Inverness with the Isle of Skye and a vast area of the western and north-western Highlands. Inverness is by far the largest urban and service centre, while elsewhere settlement is dispersed among small towns, villages, crofting communities and islands. Mountain ranges, sea lochs, glens and long stretches of coastline dominate much of the landscape. Road journeys between communities can be lengthy and are shaped by the terrain. The constituency therefore brings together a growing Highland city with some of Scotland’s most sparsely populated and geographically remote areas.

This project will fund the premiere production of GRAFT [A North Coast 500 Play], a new play from multi award-winning Highland playwright Jack MacGregor, in partnership with Eden Court Theatre. GRAFT tells the story of a darker side of the contemporary Highlands, following a driver’s lonely journey north from Inverness to Thurso, along the spine of the country. This one-act thriller for one actor explores the underworld of county lines crime, particularly in rural communities in the far north of Scotland. The project will allow the play to go into production for the first time, with staged performances at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Snow Angels is a cold, gritty thriller for the stage, written by Carly Wilson for Untie My Tongue Theatre. This is an R&D project focusing on artist development, collaborative theatre making and preparing the work for a full production. The R&D will take place in Aberdeen, with support from Aberdeen Arts Centre, culminating in two sharings - one for North East and Highland industry in Aberdeen, and one for central belt audiences in Edinburgh. This R&D builds on previous development and support from Scottish Youth Theatre and Aberdeen Arts Centre in February 2025, and Forgan Arts Centre in February 2026.
