Hamilton and Clyde Valley is centred on Hamilton and extends south and east through communities along the Clyde valley in South Lanarkshire. Hamilton is the largest urban and commercial centre, forming part of the wider Glasgow conurbation. Beyond it, the constituency includes smaller towns, villages and increasingly rural landscapes following the River Clyde and surrounding road corridors. Former industrial communities sit alongside farmland and open countryside, while the valley itself provides a strong geographical thread through the seat. Major motorway and rail links connect Hamilton with Glasgow and the rest of central Scotland. The constituency therefore combines a substantial suburban town with a broad semi-rural and rural hinterland.
