Gordon and Buchan covers a broad part of Aberdeenshire north and west of Aberdeen. It includes towns and communities across the Gordon area and extends toward the Buchan countryside, with settlements separated by extensive agricultural land. Inverurie is one of the principal inland centres, while other towns and larger villages provide local services across the constituency. The River Don and its tributaries shape parts of the landscape, which ranges from fertile lowland farmland to higher and more open country toward the west. The seat is predominantly rural and commuter-oriented outside its towns, with strong road links into Aberdeen. Its population is distributed among several centres rather than one dominant urban area.

About this award
Feed Free is a breastfeeding project resulting in a pop-up exhibition by Hayley Hadden, organised in collaboration with the charity LLL Collective. Our focus is on creating fine art images on community breastfeeding, personal stories and public breastfeeding. The images will fine art documentary style. Our opening night will be Friday, 21st August, at the Salt Space gallery in Glasgow and will run until Sunday, 23rd August. We also have sponsors from MSP's, Jackie Dunbar, Gillian Martin and Karen Adam for an exhibition at Holyrood. With the nature of the exhibition being a pop-up, we may also have further venues after our initial opening exhibition in August. This collection of photography portrays the realities, diversity, triumphs and challenges of breastfeeding mothers in Scotland to be exhibited in the same month as World Breastfeeding Week to reach the intended audience of those seeking breastfeeding support and those interested in the arts relating to motherhood.

Practice Development: Consolidating an Ecological Art Practice at Drumbulg

About this award
This project supports a structured period of practice development following recovery from prolonged neurodivergent illness. Working from Drumbulg in rural Aberdeenshire, I will rebuild a sustainable working rhythm while consolidating my practice and preparing professional documentation for ten key bodies of work developed over the past decade. Alongside this I will research and test three emerging strands of place-based practice rooted in the surrounding landscape: the Drumbulg Calendar, exploring seasonal cycles; the Drumbulg Water Cycle, investigating relationships between land, water and ecological systems; and a regenerative material practice using inks and substances derived from the land. Complementary support from an a-n bursary will enable mentoring and sector engagement, while an Orkney residency will support exchange within Scotland’s ecological arts networks. Together these activities will strengthen my practice and prepare the next phase of public-facing work.
