Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale stretches across southern Scotland from the English border north into South Lanarkshire and the Scottish Borders. It includes towns such as Annan, Lockerbie, Moffat, Biggar and Peebles, together with many villages and rural communities. The constituency is overwhelmingly rural, with settlement concentrated in river valleys and small towns separated by farmland, moorland and upland areas. The River Clyde shapes the central part of the seat, while the Tweed valley forms an important focus farther east. Its large geographical scale means that communities are spread across several council areas and are linked more by rural road networks than by a single dominant town.

About this award
Rehearsal and staging of world premiers of "Song of Stars Cantata", an exciting new choral work for children based on Antoine de Saint- Exupéry's, "The Little Prince". Commissioning of the cantata was generously subsidised by Creative Scotland plus a private donation and was completed by Scottish composer, Savourna Stevenson during 2025. This a capella work, with original lyrics by Savourna's late song-writing partner, Les Barker, is composed as a dramatic, staged production for SATB divisi choir with 8 soloist, representing characters from Exupéry's novella. "Song of Stars Cantata" promises to be an exciting and engaging introduction to choral music for young audiences and an educational package will run alongside the premiers. Song of Stars Choir will comprise of 12 professional singers and soloist and will be conducted by Polish-born Choir Director Maciej Granat. This project will provide paid work for professional/graduate singers when professional opportunities are scarce.
