Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock spans parts of South Ayrshire and East Ayrshire. It includes much of Ayr, then runs south through the Carrick area around Maybole and Girvan and east into Cumnock, New Cumnock and the Doon Valley. The constituency therefore covers a wide range of landscapes: urban neighbourhoods in Ayr, smaller former industrial towns inland, agricultural countryside and a long stretch of the Firth of Clyde coast in South Ayrshire. Girvan and Maybole act as important local centres for the southern part of the seat, while Cumnock serves communities farther inland. The current Westminster boundary was retained through the 2023 review, so this broad coastal-to-inland geography continues from the previous constituency.
