East Antrim follows the County Antrim coast north of Belfast and includes major communities such as Carrickfergus, Larne and parts of Newtownabbey. The constituency has a strong coastal character, with Belfast Lough shaping its southern section and the North Channel extending along the eastern edge farther north. Carrickfergus and Larne are the principal towns, while smaller settlements and suburban communities lie between them and inland. The area also contains open countryside and upland landscapes rising away from the coast. Major road and rail routes connect the constituency with Belfast and the north coast, while Larne serves as an important port. The seat therefore combines commuter suburbs, historic towns, port activity and rural coastal hinterland.
