West Bromwich is the principal town and transport focus, while neighbouring communities are closely connected to Birmingham and other Black Country centres. Canals, parks and redevelopment sites provide some breaks in the urban fabric. Overall, the constituency reflects the industrial and metropolitan character of the central West Midlands.
