Stafford is the main commercial, administrative and transport centre, with a historic core and extensive residential development. The constituency also includes communities such as Eccleshall and villages to the west and north of the town. Major road and rail routes connect the area with Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and the wider Midlands. Outside Stafford, settlement becomes more dispersed across farmland and open countryside. Overall, the seat combines one substantial county town with a broad semi-rural and rural hinterland.
