St Austell is an important inland commercial and service centre, while Newquay has a strong Atlantic coastal and visitor character. The constituency also includes smaller towns, villages and rural communities between the two centres and toward the south coast. The landscape ranges from beaches and cliffs to farmland and former china-clay areas. Major roads connect the seat with Truro, Bodmin and the wider county. Overall, it combines two distinct towns with a varied rural and coastal hinterland.
