Spen Valley covers a group of West Yorkshire towns and communities including Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike, Liversedge, Gomersal, Birstall and Mirfield. The constituency has a strong former textile and industrial heritage, with dense town centres, residential neighbourhoods and former industrial land arranged along valleys and transport corridors. Open land and hills separate some communities, giving the area a more fragmented settlement pattern than a single continuous town. Major road links connect the seat with Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield. Overall, it brings together several distinct but closely connected West Yorkshire towns.
