Southend East and Rochford combines eastern Southend-on-Sea with Rochford and nearby communities in south Essex. The Southend section is urban and coastal, with dense residential neighbourhoods and strong links to the city centre and seafront. Rochford is a distinct historic town farther inland, surrounded by lower-density development, farmland and estuary landscapes. Rail and road links connect the constituency with London and other parts of Essex. The seat therefore has a mixed coastal, suburban and semi-rural character, joining part of a large seaside city with a smaller town and countryside beyond.
