41,990 householdsCensus 2021
Home owners69.5% · 29,191 households
Private renters18.1% · 7,581 households
Social renters11.6% · 4,863 households

Housing-tenure figures come from the most recent census: 2021 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and 2022 in Scotland. View housing-tenure source ↗

Household composition

A broad view of household types in this constituency. Project Open Gov uses the four broad groups supplied by the Commons Library so the presentation remains consistent across the UK.

41,989 householdsCensus 2021
One-person households29.4% · 12,341 households
Families with dependent children21.1% · 8,866 households
Other single-family households46.9% · 19,682 households

Household-composition figures come from the Commons Library constituency dataset. The source uses census data and Project Open Gov displays its broad household groups rather than attempting to harmonise the detailed categories itself. View household-composition source ↗

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

94,946 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot7.8% · 7,399 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little11.3% · 10,755 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act80.9% · 76,792 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗

About this award

This is an ambitious project to restore and enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the Shropshire Hills. By improving habitats, strengthening ecological connectivity and building climate resilience, the project will help ensure that wildlife and people can thrive both now and into the future. Working with farmers, under-served communities and young people, we will support long-term stewardship of land, soils, water and habitats. Through inclusive participation, farmers will shape priorities for nature recovery; community partners will identify and remove barriers to accessing the countryside; and young people will co-design opportunities that deepen their connection to nature and heritage. Using a proven Community Organising Framework, the project embeds participation, shared decision making and collaboration. Communities will be supported to lead, shape solutions and act for nature. The project will strengthen the resilience of the Shropshire Hills and inspire more people to understand, enjoy and care for this special landscape.
