South Devon covers a broad part of the Devon coast and inland countryside. It includes coastal towns, estuary communities and villages set among rolling farmland and wooded valleys. The constituency has a strong maritime character, with beaches, cliffs, harbours and river estuaries shaping many settlements. Inland areas become more rural, with smaller communities separated by substantial open countryside. Road links connect the seat with Plymouth, Exeter and the wider South West, although the coastal geography can make travel indirect. Overall, the constituency combines seaside towns, rural villages and extensive coastal landscapes rather than one dominant urban centre.
