Sleaford and North Hykeham covers a broad part of Lincolnshire south and east of Lincoln. Sleaford is an important market and service town, while North Hykeham forms part of the suburban area immediately south of Lincoln. Between and around them are villages, farmland and open countryside characteristic of central Lincolnshire. The constituency therefore contains a clear contrast between suburban communities close to the county city and more rural settlements farther east and south. Major road and rail links connect the area with Lincoln, Grantham and the wider East Midlands. Overall, the seat combines two distinct centres with an extensive agricultural hinterland.
