The historic centre sits within a loop of the River Severn, while residential neighbourhoods and commercial districts extend outward beyond the medieval core. Shrewsbury is an important administrative, shopping and transport centre for a large part of Shropshire. Major road and rail routes connect the town with Birmingham, Chester, Wales and the wider region. Parks, river corridors and open land provide significant green space. Overall, the seat is focused on one historic market and county town rather than a large rural hinterland.
