About this award
The project aims to celebrate and safeguard the legacy of the Pullin family of Sheffield – one of Britain’s oldest fairground/amusements families, whose history stretches back generations. The Pullins were among the first travelling families in the UK from the 12th century and have maintained an unbroken connection with Sheffield for over 100 years. The family also played an early role in the establishment of the National Fairground and Circus Archive (NFCA) at the University of Sheffield. This project is about recording the heritage of the last two family members, restoring the two last made rides by Jackson's, creating an archive of materials about the association with Sheffield Parks: oral recordings, stories from users, interpretation boards for others to learn from: book, digitising stories, photos and a film for public use/learning, providing activities around heritage painting skills, promoting cultural diversity, ensuring a legacy to celebrate the Pullin archive and connection.

Our organisation aims to preserve, celebrate, and share the rich heritage of Sheffield Tigers RUFC and its deep roots within the Sheffield community. Through the redevelopment of the 1932 Lounge, we want to transform a historically significant space into an accessible, engaging, and community-focused heritage hub. The project will protect important stories, memorabilia, and traditions while creating new opportunities for learning, participation, and connection. We aim to involve supporters, local residents, schools, and volunteers in shaping and interpreting this shared history, ensuring it reflects a wide range of voices and experiences. By combining conservation, digital interpretation, and community programming, we hope to inspire pride, strengthen identity, and make our heritage relevant for future generations. Ultimately, we want the 1932 Lounge to become a living space where history is not only preserved but actively experienced and enjoyed.

About this award
Synth City – Celebrating the Legacy of The Limit' aims to preserve and promote the story of one of Sheffield's most influential underground music venues. Opening in 1978, The Limit became the launchpad for the city’s pioneering electropop scene, nurturing acts like The Human League, Vice Versa (became ABC), Clock DVA, Cabaret Voltaire, Heaven 17 and others. With its 50th anniversary approaching in 2028, our project will collect and share the memories, music and cultural impact of this iconic space. Through oral histories, exhibitions, podcasts, a new book, and a documentary film, we’ll create a living archive that reintroduces this vital chapter of Sheffield's story to new audiences. The project will train volunteers, celebrate local creativity, and ensure that The Limit’s legacy is not lost to time. Led by the newly formed Synth City, we will honour the past while building skills and pride for the future.
