Scarborough and Whitby follows a long stretch of the North Yorkshire coast and is centred on the two seaside towns in its name. Scarborough is the larger urban and service centre, while Whitby provides a distinct historic port and coastal focus farther north. Between and around them are villages, cliffs, moorland and rural communities associated with the North York Moors and surrounding countryside. The coastline and upland landscape strongly shape transport and settlement patterns. The constituency therefore combines two major coastal towns with extensive rural and protected landscapes rather than forming one continuous urban corridor.
