Rother Valley covers communities to the south and east of Rotherham and includes a mixture of former mining towns, suburban settlements, villages and open countryside. The constituency sits between the Sheffield–Rotherham urban area and the more rural landscapes toward Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Former industrial communities are interspersed with farmland, reservoirs and river valleys, creating a varied physical setting. Major roads provide links with Sheffield, Rotherham and the wider South Yorkshire region. No single town dominates the whole seat. Instead, it brings together several distinct communities with a shared position on the outer edge of the South Yorkshire conurbation.
