Romsey and Southampton North combines the Hampshire market town of Romsey with suburban communities on the northern edge of Southampton and surrounding countryside. Romsey is a distinct historic town on the River Test, while the southern part of the constituency is more closely integrated with the wider Southampton urban area. Between and around these centres are villages, farmland, woodland and river landscapes. Major road links connect the seat with Southampton, Winchester and Salisbury. The constituency therefore has a mixed character, bringing together one traditional market town, commuter suburbs and a broad rural hinterland rather than forming one continuous urban area.
