Rochdale constituency is centred on the Greater Manchester town of Rochdale and includes much of its main urban area. Rochdale provides the principal commercial and transport centre, with residential neighbourhoods extending along valleys and hills beneath the Pennines. The town’s development reflects a strong textile and industrial history, leaving a mixture of older terraces, post-war housing and redeveloped former industrial land. Major roads and rail links connect the area with Manchester, Oldham and West Yorkshire. Toward the outer edge, the landscape becomes greener and more elevated. Overall, the seat is predominantly urban but strongly shaped by its Pennine valley setting.
