Local context
Poplar and Limehouse covers a densely urban part of east London within Tower Hamlets. It includes Poplar, Limehouse and neighbouring communities around the Isle of Dogs and lower Lea and Thames corridors. The constituency contains a striking mixture of historic dockside neighbourhoods, large housing estates, modern high-rise development and major business districts. The River Thames and former docks strongly shape its geography, while Underground, DLR and bus routes provide extensive transport links. Parks and waterways create some open space within the dense built environment. Overall, the seat is a compact inner-city constituency defined by riverside and docklands development.
