Oxford West and Abingdon combines western Oxford with Abingdon and surrounding communities in the Vale of White Horse. The Oxford section is urban and suburban, with residential neighbourhoods and university-related areas, while Abingdon is a distinct market town on the River Thames. Between and around them are villages, open land and transport corridors connecting the two centres. The constituency therefore has a mixed city-and-town character rather than one continuous urban form. Major road links provide access toward Oxford, Didcot and the wider Thames Valley. The River Thames and surrounding green spaces are important physical features across the area.
