Local context
North East Somerset and Hanham stretches from communities on the eastern edge of Bristol into the towns, villages and countryside of north-east Somerset. Hanham and nearby suburbs are closely linked to the Bristol urban area, while settlements farther south and east become increasingly distinct and rural. The constituency includes former mining communities, villages and agricultural land across the hills and valleys between Bristol and Bath. Major roads connect the area with both cities and the wider West of England. The seat therefore contains a clear transition from outer suburban development to smaller towns, villages and open countryside rather than forming one continuous metropolitan area.
