Household composition

A broad view of household types in this constituency. Project Open Gov uses the four broad groups supplied by the Commons Library so the presentation remains consistent across the UK.

Families with dependent children29.1% · 12,594 households
Other single-family households39.7% · 17,169 households

Disability and day-to-day activities

The source records whether day-to-day activities are limited and uses separate person-level tables for England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

102,791 people in the source baseCensus 2021Source comparison: England & Wales
Day-to-day activities limited a lot5.7% · 5,861 people
Day-to-day activities limited a little10.1% · 10,347 people
Not disabled under the Equality Act84.2% · 86,583 people

Comparison note: the workbook uses different source terminology across the UK: England & Wales uses “Disabled under the Equality Act”, while Scotland and Northern Ireland use “Disabled” / “Non-disabled”. Project Open Gov therefore preserves the source categories and does not present them as one single like-for-like UK legal definition.

Disability figures come from the Commons Library constituency workbook. This profile uses the person-level tables only; the workbook also contains separate household-level disability tables which are not used here. View disability source ↗

About this award

North Hertfordshire Museum opened in 2019 following the amalgamation of the former Hitchin and Letchworth Museums. It was shaped by extensive community consultation, and its success has shown how strongly people value access to their heritage. It is now time for the next step, a new museum store that allows staff and volunteers to share more than one million stored items with the public. The Council has purchased an industrial unit in Letchworth for this purpose, providing the opportunity to transform how we care for and use the collections. With grant support, a collections move officer and a volunteer manager will train and lead community volunteers to assess, rationalise, digitise and pack the stored collections. The legacy is an accessible, climate controlled and welcoming new store with regular talks, tours and training; a store where the community plays an active role in caring for, understanding and celebrating its shared heritage.
