Local context
North East Hampshire covers a broad area of north-eastern Hampshire and includes towns, villages and suburban communities close to the Surrey and Berkshire borders. Much of the constituency has a commuter character, with strong road and rail links toward London, Reading and Basingstoke. Larger settlements provide local centres, while extensive areas of woodland, heath and farmland separate them. The landscape becomes increasingly rural away from the main transport corridors, despite the proximity of several major towns outside the seat. Overall, the constituency combines growing commuter communities with villages and open countryside rather than forming one continuous urban area.
