The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, with residential districts, major employment sites and transport infrastructure occupying much of the area. Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the Mersey estuary strongly influence the southern edge, while areas such as Woolton have a more established suburban character. Major road and rail routes connect the seat with central Liverpool and neighbouring parts of Merseyside. Parks and open spaces remain significant in several neighbourhoods. Overall, the constituency forms a broad southern sector of the Liverpool urban area.
