Lancaster and Wyre combines the historic city of Lancaster with a broad rural area extending south and east into Wyre. Lancaster is the largest urban, university and transport centre, set on the River Lune near Morecambe Bay. Beyond the city, the constituency includes smaller towns, villages, farmland and open countryside stretching toward the Forest of Bowland and the Fylde plain. Settlement becomes increasingly dispersed away from Lancaster, with local centres serving rural communities. The seat therefore joins a compact regional city with a substantial countryside hinterland. Rivers, lowland farmland and upland edges give different parts of the constituency markedly different physical settings.
