Knowsley lies within the metropolitan borough of the same name on the eastern side of the Liverpool urban area. It contains a series of established residential communities, town centres and former industrial areas connected by major roads and rail routes. Much of the constituency is urban and suburban, although parks, green corridors and open land separate some neighbourhoods. The borough’s settlements are closely linked to Liverpool and the wider Merseyside conurbation but retain distinct local centres. Housing ranges from older urban streets to large post-war developments and newer estates. The constituency therefore reflects the varied suburban geography of eastern Merseyside rather than being centred on one single historic town.
