Islington South and Finsbury covers the southern half of the London Borough of Islington and lies immediately north of the City of London. It includes areas around Angel, Clerkenwell, Finsbury and neighbouring inner-city districts. The constituency is densely urban, with residential streets, offices, historic squares, major roads and redevelopment areas packed into a relatively small area. Angel provides a prominent commercial and transport centre, while Clerkenwell has a strong mixed residential and business character. Parks and squares offer smaller areas of open space within the continuous built environment. The seat is therefore strongly inner-city and closely connected to central London’s commercial core.
