Hove and Portslade covers the western half of the Brighton and Hove urban area. It includes Hove’s town centre and seafront, residential neighbourhoods inland and Portslade toward the city’s western boundary. The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, with the English Channel forming its southern edge and the South Downs rising to the north. Hove has a dense coastal and residential character, while Portslade includes more industrial, suburban and valley-side areas. Major rail and road routes run east–west through the seat, connecting it with Brighton, Worthing and London. The constituency therefore combines adjoining coastal communities within one continuous urban corridor.
