High Peak covers the north-western part of Derbyshire and includes several distinct towns within and around the Peak District. Buxton and Glossop are the largest centres, while New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith and smaller communities provide additional local focuses. The constituency is strongly shaped by upland geography, with towns occupying valleys and basins separated by moorland, hills and open countryside. Parts of the seat lie within the Peak District National Park, creating a sharp contrast between compact urban settlements and sparsely populated landscapes. Rail and road routes connect different valleys toward Manchester, Sheffield and the wider Midlands. The seat therefore has a dispersed town-and-country character rather than one dominant centre.
