Heywood and Middleton North lies within the Rochdale borough in Greater Manchester. It is centred on Heywood and the northern part of Middleton, together with neighbouring residential communities and areas closer to the Pennine edge of the conurbation. The constituency is predominantly urban and suburban, but open land separates some of the larger settlements and becomes more prominent toward its northern boundary. Heywood provides a distinct town centre, while Middleton connects the seat more closely with Manchester and the wider urban area to the south. Major roads link the communities across the borough. Overall, the constituency combines established former industrial towns with suburban neighbourhoods and a limited rural fringe.
