Harrogate and Knaresborough is centred on the neighbouring North Yorkshire towns of Harrogate and Knaresborough. Harrogate is the larger urban and commercial centre, known for its broad avenues, parkland and spa-town heritage, while Knaresborough has a compact historic centre above the River Nidd. The two towns are closely connected by road and rail but retain distinct identities. The constituency also includes suburban neighbourhoods and some open countryside around their edges. Compared with the large rural seats surrounding it, this constituency is more strongly urban and town-focused. Green spaces, the Nidd valley and the transition toward the Yorkshire countryside remain important features of its physical character.
