Harlow constituency is centred on the Essex town of Harlow and covers most of its planned post-war urban area. The town was developed as a new town, with residential neighbourhoods arranged around local centres, green spaces and a central commercial district. Harlow is largely surrounded by open countryside and green belt, giving the constituency a relatively clear edge compared with more continuous metropolitan suburbs. The River Stort runs along the northern side, while major road and rail routes provide connections with London, Cambridge and nearby Hertfordshire. The seat is overwhelmingly urban and suburban but contains extensive parks and green corridors that reflect the town’s planned design.
