Hampstead and Highgate covers elevated north London neighbourhoods on both sides of Hampstead Heath. It includes Hampstead, Highgate and surrounding residential districts across parts of Camden and Haringey. The constituency is predominantly urban and residential, but the Heath and adjoining open spaces form an unusually large green centre. Hampstead and Highgate each retain distinctive historic village centres despite being fully integrated into London. Development ranges from dense streets closer to inner London to lower-density housing around the hills and open land. Rail, Underground and bus routes provide links toward central London. The seat’s geography is therefore strongly shaped by its high ground, woodland and major open spaces.
